Personal Information

Greetings all. Thank you for your interest. Hailing from a small town in Upstate New York, I have been a Midwesterner for the past 30 years, almost all exclusively in a wide variety of assignments on active duty service in the U.S. Air Force, including four nonconsecutive years overseas and several deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. I retired from the Air Force in 2012 with an express interest in starting a new career, a new meaningful mission, entering emergency medicine academia. Emergency medicine, particularly teaching, has been my passion and avocation for the better part of my adult life. I am never bored in the Emergency Department and I continue to be fascinated and amazed by the phenomenon of continuing to find ways to modify and improve my clinical acumen and practice. It is a privilege and an honor, in my view, to be at the bedside of a sick or injured patient, with a trainee, in a sacrosanct physician-patient relationship. No other profession can boast similarly.

My keen clinical interests include, but are not limited to, evidence-based emergency medicine, clinical quality and customer service, Six Sigma Lean Initiatives to enhance flow and Emergency Department patient through-put, combat trauma, medicolegal issues and toxicology.

My wife Barb and I share six highly successful grown children who are fortunate to be blessed with eight absolutely wonderful children – our terrific grandchildren. We enjoy various outdoor activities, music and the theater and are floridly rabid Major League Baseball fanatics.
