Cory Owen is Marketing Manager for Office of Marketing at Wright State University, a public research university in Dayton, Ohio.
Cory joined the Wright State University Office of Communications and Marketing in 2008 as a student reporter/writer. She became a full-time staff member in January 2011, working as a public relations writer and a member of the media relations team. In that role, she helped to establish the content strategy for the university’s new online Newsroom and update the university’s crisis communications plan.
In 2013, she worked for the Wright State Research Institute as a marketing communications specialist. She rejoined the Office of Marketing in February 2014 when it became a standalone office.
Now as marketing manager, Cory oversees all print marketing projects. She advises university partners on marketing best practices and develops creative solutions to meet their needs. She sets the creative direction for projects, sees that they are completed on time and on budget, and ensures that messaging aligns with the university’s strategic plan. Cory facilitates the print team’s collaboration with the office’s web, media relations, and social media teams to produce integrated marketing campaigns for Wright State’s colleges, events, programs, initiatives, etc.
Cory is also the assistant editor of the Wright State University Magazine, the university’s flagship publication, and shepherds the magazine through the entire production process. She works with the writers to the develop story list, sets deadlines and schedules, writes and/or edits all content, plans all visuals and layouts with the photographers and the designer, and ensures that the magazine is printed successfully.
She has served the university on a number of campus-wide initiatives. She is currently a part of the 50th Anniversary Committee and the ArtsGala Internal Planning Committee. She played a major role in Wright State’s successful hosting of the Science Olympiad National Tournament in 2013 and 2017.
Cory is a Raider through and through. She graduated summa cum laude from the Wright State University College of Liberal Arts and the University Honors Program in 2010 with bachelor’s degrees in both mass communication and international studies. In 2013, she completed her M.B.A. from the Raj Soin College of Business.
Outside of work, Cory is a member of the TEDxDayton leadership team where she currently serves as co-chair of the speakers committee. She lives in Beavercreek with her husband, John (a fellow Wright State graduate and employee). She enjoys reading, watching sci-fi and British television series, singing show tunes, and making frequent trips to Walt Disney World.
