Rory Roberts is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at Wright State University. Dr. Rory Roberts obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California-Irvine.  At UCI, Rory developed models for high temperature fuel cell/ gas turbine hybrid systems.  He worked 4 years at Rolls-Royce Fuel Cell Systems in fuel cell gas turbine hybrid system design, development, and testing.  At Rolls-Royce, Rory worked with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing along with subsystem development and integration.  He is currently an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Wright State University.  His current areas of research are in: transient model development for power, thermal and propulsion systems for system design, optimization and control architecture development.  Some examples are:  tip-to-tail (T2T) modeling of high speed aircraft, T2T modeling of an unmanned air vehicle (UAV), power and thermal management for laser systems, fuel cell systems, fuel processing systems and clean coal technologies.  He also has projects involving testing for small UAV propulsion systems.

Research Interests: Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  Multi-disciplinary system design, design optimization, integration, transient analysis, optimal control. Domains: Propulsion, Power and Thermal Management Aerospace Systems, Fuel Cells, Gas Turbines, Solar, Wind, Hydrogen and Fuel Processing.
