Research Areas and Description:                                                     

Dr. Johnson is doing a clinical/translational research fellowship in Dr. William Carson’s lab at The Ohio State University James Comprehensive Cancer Center and Solove Research Institute. Her main focus is on understanding the relationship between immune cell populations and the tumor microenvironment in patients with melanoma, breast cancer, head and neck cancer, and other malignancies. She is currently studying the use of nanodiamonds for the targeting and modulation of immune cell populations for potential therapeutic applications.  Additionally, she is studying the stimulation of different IL-2 receptors on the antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity of NK cells and associated effects on chemokine/cytokine production, signaling protein transcription, and T-cell migration. Courtney hopes to start a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology upon completing general surgery residency.
