I am honored and excited to serve as the Associate Dean for Medical Education, Chair, Department of Medical Education at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. I have been actively involved in medical education my entire career. I am an obstetrician/gynecologist and an obstetrical critical care specialist. I have been teaching medical students since I was an intern and have participated in GME for residents and fellows in OB GYN, internal medicine/specialties, surgery/trauma/critical care. I have also contributed to CME for obstetrical providers in a regional perinatal program.

My career in undergraduate medical education leadership began when I was appointed director for the OB GYN clerkship at a large medical school. I served as an assistant dean for clinical sciences, working with other clerkship directors. My interest in medical education deepened and I enrolled at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education in the Doctor of Education program. I chose a program where I would study with educators serving learners from grade school to graduate educational programs within and outside of medicine. My course concentration focused on understanding and employing data-driven and evidence-based neurocognitive processes in learning and teaching. My dissertation was a mixed method project that evolved into a qualitative study. I wanted to understand how factors contributed to an unexpected outcome for a program designed for clinical faculty teaching medical students. From this dissertation experience I have developed skills in needs assessment, programmatic design, implementation, and evaluation. During my EdD journey I became interested in understanding learning differences, evidence-informed neurocognitive learning/teaching approaches, curricular design/implementation/evaluation, educational leadership, and professional identity formation.

My hope is that my experience as an educator and a clinician will add value to the curriculum at BSOM and that I will serve each and every medical student on their journey toward becoming self-directed learners and outstanding physicians who take their place in the legacy of excellence we have at BSOM.
