Tarun Goswami is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Wright State University. All his degrees are in Mechanical Engineering, earning his Doctor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology. With Wright State University support he founded a start-up Medical and Engineering Solutions Limited that interfaces with design, development and marketing of medical equipment and devices. He is the associate editor of several international journals including one Frontier and has authored more than 200 articles, edited 2 Intech books on musculoskeletal biomechanics and won a scientist medal for his work in human biomechanics. He is a fellow of Instution of Engineers and International Association for Advanced Materials. He founded a Device Development Center within the college that contributes to device development at senior design project level. He is an active researcher and contributes to research in various fields of biomedical engineering and his teaching. He had been ranked as world's top 2% of the scientists by Stanford and Elsevier Science in Engineering and Materials Engineering.

Teaching

He has taught a variety of courses at undergraduate and graduate level that he deveoped and offered. In recent years he has been teaching mainly the graduate courses as below.

BME 4470/6470 Design of Medical Devices

BME 7210 Orthopaedic and Prosthetic Engineering

BME 7220 Experimental Orthopaedic Engineering

BME 7371 Failure Analysis of Medical Devices

He developed and offers a Graduate Certificate in Medical Device Engineering requiring 12 credit hours and above courses. We may consider offering it on-line if students will be interested. These courses are transferable in MSBME.

Research Statement

Orthopaedic Biomechanics: continues to be a research that supports Engineering and Orthopaedic Residency research here at Wright State. We validate the computational capabilities with experimental construct testing for various biomechanical behavior. These projects help decide selection of devices in the operating room.

Alzheimer's Disease and Traumatic Brain Injury: Projects are to use the brain imaging data to generate various morphometry and also construct 3D models for computational analyses.

Cardiovascular Biomechanics: We hold one of the largest repositories of retrieved pacemakers and defibrillators that we study for battery longivity and using AI to predict the sudden failure. We also study the aortic valve hemodynamics and prosthetic-patient mismatch.

Students Advised

Currently 5 PhD, 3 MSBME thesis, few Medical students, and undergraduate students are involved in various reserch projects. Students call this laboratory Biomedical Research Engineering and Design (BREAD) Lab. Prospective students may be able to learn various projects and research conducted in the attached document.
